Join our Acrylic Painting Class for an engaging and informative journey into the world of acrylics. In this 6-class series, you'll learn everything from mastering the basics of the medium to creating a finished piece ready for display. Start with an introduction to acrylic paints, exploring a variety of tools and techniques, and build your skills through guided exercises. As the course progresses, you’ll dive into canvas selection, composition, and the art of painting from a live model. You’ll also gain valuable insights on how to market your artwork, both locally and online. The final class focuses on critiquing and refining your work, giving you the opportunity to finish your pieces and take home your masterpieces. Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your skills, this class will help you tap into your creativity and bring your vision to life!

 1st Class: Dive into the World of Acrylics

  • For beginners and intermediates alike, explore the versatile world of acrylic paint.
  • Discover how to apply your creative instincts and abilities.
  • Get to know your artistic "Tool Box" with applicators like brushes and palette knives, and even use paint straight from the tube.
  • Engage in lively Q&A sessions to spark creativity.
  • Put your skills to the test with pattern-creation exercises using a variety of applicators.
  • Enjoy free time for hands-on practice.

2nd Class: Craft Your Vision on Canvas

  • Learn how to transform your vision into an artistic reality on canvas.
  • Understand the importance of balance, voids, foreground vs. background, and perspective.
  • Dive into the art of building a captivating picture.
  • Continue the creative conversation with Q&A sessions.
  • Apply your new knowledge through practice time.

3rd Class: Choose the Perfect Canvas

  • Navigate the world of canvases, from store-bought options to stretching and gesso techniques.
  • Explore framing and prepping for hanging your artwork.
  • Engage in insightful Q&A sessions.
  • Put your canvas knowledge to use during free painting time.

4th Class: Celebrate Progress and Critique

  • Present your work for constructive feedback and discussion with the entire class.
  • Benefit from diverse perspectives and constructive criticism.
  • Continue your creative journey with time to paint.

5th Class: Share Your Art with the World

  • Learn to market your artwork, whether framed, unframed, or in print form.
  • Discover opportunities for local and online exhibitions.
  • Enjoy ample time for personal projects and practice.

6th Class: Bring It All Together

  • Summarize your creative odyssey by integrating all that you've learned.
  • Engage in a final Q&A session to address any remaining questions.

What To Bring

  • 16”x20” Pad of canvas paper
  • Brushes: Fan, round, flat, filbert, bright, and angle in a variety of sizes.
  • Small pallet knife
  • 4 oz. tubes of acrylic paint (Liquitex or other brands): Red, yellow, blue, black, white, gesso, primer and any other colors of choice.
  • ¾” roll of green painter's tape
  • Roll of wax paper
  • Roll of paper towels and rags
  • 1 bar of soap
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Tackle box or container to hold supplies.

Instructor

Alan G. 
Alan is a versatile artist who works in two and three dimensions using a variety of mediums. He aims to capture the personality of his subjects through his artwork. Alan has won several awards for his artwork, including "Best in Show" for sculpture at "The Guild of Creative Arts." He's also an accomplished designer and project manager who has created large promotional exhibits worldwide. Alan's artwork can be found in exhibitions and galleries throughout the Philadelphia/Trenton area and beyond.
