Class Experience

Drawing is an art form that provides immense satisfaction. Whether it is animals, humans, fantasy, anime, or comics, the fundamentals of drawing remain the same. This class will focus on sketching and mastering the basics of drawing techniques such as shading, perspective, and contour. These techniques will help the student build a character and bring their mental image onto paper. We will use pencils, pens and ink, markers, and colored pencils as our primary tools.By focusing on the fundamentals, the student will gain a better understanding of the basics of drawing and gain the confidence to start creating more complex and detailed pieces. They will also be able to create any genre of art they choose, be it animals, humans, fantasy, anime, or comics.

This class is excellent for anyone who likes drawing, regardless of experience. It provides a great opportunity to learn the basics of drawing and develop the skills necessary to create beautiful art pieces.

 

Sample Class Format

  • Six weeks. Each class is one-hour and fifteen minutes.
  • This class is tailored to each individual student. Everyone begins at their own skill level and can draw the subject matter they are passionate about. Students have the option to practice drawing existing characters and animals or creating their own. During each class session, Mr. Opal assigns a specific task that students must complete. These assignments vary from drawing a character in a group to demonstrate perspective to drawing them in low lighting to establish value. Every goal helps students practice different elements of art and principles of design. 

 

What To Bring

  • Artists pencils, eraser, sketchbook 11" x 14" or larger
  • Markers (optional)
  • Colored pencils (optional)
